"School didn't make me smart, I was just born that way."

This was Ty's response after I finished praising him for a new song he had learned at school.  Since getting him off to school can sometimes be a challenge, I like to remind him of how much he learns while there and how much he enjoys it despite the fuss he puts up before walking through the front door.  Since we have at least 18 or so years left of the school experience, I can't tell him just yet that he's probably right: he was born that way.
